Hyrul Anuar was born in 1988 in Sabak Bernam, Selangor. He completed his BA Film & Video at the National Arts & Culture Academy (ASWARA) in 2011.

In 2012, he joined Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur as a graphic designer. During his time at Leo Burnett, he was entrusted with Samsung and has developed several integrated campaigns for the brand. Notable projects for the brand include The Sparkle Project and Galaxy Wonderland. He was also named Runner Up for Young Kancil at the 2012 Kancil Awards in Malaysia.

In 2013, Hyrul represented Malaysia at the Adfest Asia Pacific Advertising Festival and won both Young Lotus categories with his project The Real Daydream Nation.

In mid-2014, Hyrul received an offer to work at Fabrica (United Colours of Benetton’s Communication Research Centre based in Treviso, Italy) and was awarded a working scholarship from Fabrica after producing a project called #endstatelessness for UNHCR.

He is currently the Resident Director at Directors ThinkTank Malaysia.
